Young Oratory and Religious Education at St Bernadette’s
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd takes place on Sundays from 08:00 until 09:00 in the Atrium in the Parish Centre for ages 3 to 6 years. The motto of CGS is “Help me fall in love with God by myself”. The purpose is therefore to assist the involvement of children and adults in a common religious experience in which the religious values of childhood, primarily those values of contemplation and enjoyment of God, are predominant. The children learn self-control which leads to a positive self-concept. Individual progress is charted and they are guided and challenged accordingly.
Catechism and EDGE
Catechism takes place on Fridays from 17:00 until 18:00 in the Parish Centre for children 8 years and older. The programme is currently a two year preparation programme for all baptised children requesting First Communion. Children in Grades 3 and 4 or any child in the senior primary school phase, who has not received these Sacraments, should attend this programme.
EDGE is a Catholic youth ministry experience created for children in Grades 5, 6 and 7 who have received their First Holy Communion. The programme is designed to meet the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young Catholics. Children are encouraged to bring their friends from other parishes and also non-Catholic Christians to EDGE on Friday evenings at 17:00.
